Ali Reynolds of Hawksmoor Spitalfields in London has been announced as being one of the final six bartenders in the last stage of the Diageo Reserve World Class global final.
Representing Great Britain, he has been selected by judges along with the five others out of 54 national winners from countries around the world after three days of challenges held in Cape Town in South Africa.
They will be battling out for first place tomorrow (September 3) in The Cape Town Shakedown: with limited resources and limited time, they have been challenged to create their own micro World Class pop-up bar.
Tune into the live stream at https://www.theworldclassclub.com between 3.30pm and 5pm to watch the challenge as it happens.
The other five are Ariel Leizgold from Israel, Michito Kaneko from Japan, Vítězslav Cirok from the Czech Republic, Jack Sotti from Australia, and Emmanouil Lykiardopoulos from Greece.
In each of the previous five demanding challenges, Ali performed exceptionally well, using his diverse set of skills, knowledge, quick wit and creative flair to get ahead of the competition and impress the judges.
The challenges includes a high-pressure speed round called “Against the Clock”, “Street Food Jam” which tested the bartenders abilities to incorporate unusual ingredients into their cocktails, and “Around the World” which demanded two unique cocktail rituals – one honouring the competitor’s home country and one honouring the host country.
The other two challenges were “Night and Day”, which saw the contestants create two contrasting cocktails to represent day and night, and “Retro, Disco, Future” where the bartenders had to infuse the spirit of three distinct eras into three one-of-a-kind cocktails.
