Britain’s female bartenders line up for Speed Rack

Some of the UK’s top female bartenders are set to compete today in the national Speed Rack bartending competition that will help to raise money to fight breast cancer.

The contenders are due to be:

  • Charlotte Berger, Steam & Rye, London
  • Sian Ferguson, 99 Bar & Kitchen, Aberdeen
  • Claire Houghton, Manchester House, South Manchester
  • Charlene Holt, Apotheca, Manchester

Tickets are available in advance for £15 online by clicking here and at the door. It runs from 7pm to 10pm.

Bartenders are challenged to make rounds of cocktails, selected from a list of 50 accepted industry-standard classic recipes, in front of a panel of judges and an audience. Judges rate each drink based on prep time and accuracy.

The judging panel includes Jake Burger from London bar Portobello Star and Portobello Road Gin, Belvedere global brand ambassador Ali Dedianko, and Sandrae Lawrence of The Cocktail Lovers magazine. It will be compered by JJ Goodman, bartender patron of the London Cocktail Club Group.

Speed Rack, Inc was created by nationally acclaimed US bartenders and industry ambassadors Lynnette Marrero and Ivy Mix.

It is supported in the UK by platinum sponsors Belvedere, Four Roses Bourbon, Auchentoshan whisky, Bacardi rum, Excellia Tequila and G’Vine gin. Gold sponsors are Luxardo and Martini & Rossi, and silver sponsors are Courvoisier, Galliano, Del Maguey, Rhuby Liqueur, Blossoms Syrup, June Liqueur and Le Quintinye Vermouth Royal.
