Brooklyn Brewery adds alcohol-free variant to UK range

Brooklyn Special Effects

Carlsberg UK-distributed Brooklyn Brewery is releasing a new alcohol-free beer to its UK portfolio in May.

The latest addition, Brooklyn Special Effects, aims to tap into the growing trend for low and no-alcohol options.

Available in 355ml bottles, the 0.4% ABV beer has been brewed using a specially developed fermentation method that limits the amount of alcohol created.

Brooklyn Special Effects has a “hoppy” character and “golden, bready sweetness” from Mosaic, Citra and Amarillo, along with a “piney aroma and bitter finish”.

Jonathan Dee, director of marketing for craft & ale at Carlsberg UK, said: “Inclusivity is one of the core values of Brooklyn Brewery, and to us this means that everyone should be able to enjoy a great tasting, well brewed beer, regardless of alcohol content.

“There has been a clear cultural shift in the UK towards moderation, with drinkers seeing low and no alcohol options as more ‘socially acceptable’.

“This has created an opportunity for non-alcoholic alternatives from trusted and recognised brands.

“Brooklyn Special Effects is already performing well in Sweden and we have no doubt that it will perform incredibly well in the UK too. This is a big moment for Brooklyn here in the UK.”

The Brooklyn Special Effects packaging features fluorescent inks and a vivid pattern that “boldly signals the energy, taste and style of the brew”.
