Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I announces Jean-David Thumelaire as On-Trade Sales Director

Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I, a proud part of AB InBev, has today announced Jean-David (JD) Thumelaire as its new On-Trade Sales Director. JD will be responsible for driving growth across Budweiser Brewing Group’s iconic portfolio of beers including Budweiser, Stella Artois, Corona and Bud Light, in the On-Trade, and will be supporting customers as they navigate the path to recovery during one of their most testing years.

JD has worked at AB InBev for more than ten years, starting his journey in Europe, and most recently worked as Director of Expansion, Growth & Strategic Partnerships in Africa. He has also worked as High-End Director for Africa, as Expansion Director for EMEA, and on the supply team in the UK. During his time in the company, he has demonstrated extensive expertise for accelerating growth and building brands in the On-Trade across several countries. JD will be pivotal in forging new partnerships, developing a talented team throughout the UK, and accelerating growth in the channel.

JD will build on the success of the On-Trade team, which was previously led by Ryan Fritsch, who managed the function through the initial Covid-19 period, supporting Budweiser Brewing Group’s teams and customers through uncertainty. 

In March, Budweiser Brewing Group launched Save Pub Life to provide £1 million of urgent financial assistance to the nation’s pubs during the initial lockdown period. The brewer has since evolved the programme to offer a comprehensive package of support to help our pub and bar partners to continue to open safely and successfully in light of ongoing local and national lockdowns. This includes providing access to masks, hand sanitiser and outdoor and take-away options, as well as exclusive deals with partners like BT Sport and Opus Energy. And last month, Save Pub Life was relaunched for Christmas to encourage people to support their local pub during the festive season and beyond. On the platform, pubgoers can purchase a gift card for a loved one for their favourite pub, and Budweiser Brewing Group will send the original purchaser a matching gift card. Crucially, all pubs receive the value of both gift cards now and people will be encouraged to reunite over a beer in their local as soon as they are able.  

Despite a very challenging year for the On-Trade, the ongoing popularity of Budweiser Brewing Group brands has underlined their continued value to pubs and bars. Stella Artois has become the fifth biggest selling lager in the On-Trade in 2020. Meanwhile, Camden Hells Lager and Camden Pale Ale represent #1 and #3 in the craft beer category, and Beck’s Blue continues to be a strong presence in the no and low alcohol category[1]
