A new retro can and a limited-edition lager are being introduced by Czech brewer Budweiser Budvar in the UK to celebrate the brewery’s 120th anniversary.

The activity begins on June 1 with the launch of a new “craft retro” can in both bars and the off-trade, available in both 330ml and 500ml.

A limited-edition beer has also been brought out, Budweiser Budvar Fresh Hop Imperial Lager, which is available in over 30 bars and pubs in the UK, including The Rake in Borough in London, while stocks last.

The full-bodied, malty, aromatic lager, at 7.5% ABV, is made from Saaz hops which are used for a “fresh hop” brew on the same day the cones are picked. The beer is stored for 200 days for the full flavour to mature, meaning that it takes 215 days to brew in total.

Brewmaster Adam Brož said: “Producing this special edition is a little like making a fine wine: every year is slightly different and we get to taste the flavours that nature intended.”

Budweiser Budvar is also set to announce new locations for stocking its tank beer – “tankové pivo” – which comes unpasteurised in tanks straight from the brewery to give a fuller, fresh flavour. It was a success in January when it was available at Zigfrid von Underbelly in Hoxton, London, for special #TankTuesdays events.

The mobile version of this will be appearing at events and venues across the UK this summer and beyond, serving the tank beer from a fully equipped and staffed bar.

Simon George, UK sales director for Budweiser Budvar UK, said: “On October 7, we commemorate 120 years of Budweiser Budvar’s brewing tradition. Budvar’s authenticity and originality delivers an uncompromising taste. There are no shortcuts – true quality takes time.

“As part of the anniversary celebrations through 2015 and beyond, we are ramping things up for our consumers, beginning a comprehensive programme of activity, to bring to life our history through the story of our brewery.”
