Buffalo Trace seeks British twist on American classics

Bartenders are being challenged to put a British twist on American classic cocktails, such as a Julep, Manhattan or Old Fashioned, in a new competition for Buffalo Trace bourbon.

Run by UK distributor Hi-Spirits, there will be regional heats where six bartenders will be chosen to compete in a grand final at the Buffalo Trace distillery (pictured) in Kentucky later this year.

The top prize is £1,000. Entry and further details, including deadlines for entries, are online at www.buffalotrace.co.uk/kentucky2015.

Hi-Spirits managing director Dan Bolton said: “From the blues bars of New Orleans to the hotels of Mayfair, the cocktail traditions of America and Britain have much in common as well as many distinctive differences. We’re celebrating this dual heritage with our latest Buffalo Trace competition.

“From foraged British ingredients to simply adding a dash of a British liqueur to a US recipe, we’re giving contestants free rein to use their ingenuity.

“But, with the opportunity to compete in Kentucky up for grabs, the finalists will need to come up with some inspired British twists on American classics to be in with a chance.”
