Teams of bartenders are set to swing their mallets in a bike polo tournament being run by Bulldog Gin for London Cocktail Week.
Organised with bike maker Brompton, the Bulldog Brompton Challenge will take place in Shoreditch on the last day of the cocktail festival, Sunday October 9.
They are pulling together 16 teams, each with three players, to take part in the knock-out tournament. To sign up, email Bulldog’s UK brand development manager, James Coston, at James@bulldoggin.com.
All players will be fed with Bulldog Gin-infused nibbles and watered with delicious cocktails including Drizzle’s Reviver (pictured below) – named in honour of Prince William’s deceased polo horse – after the tournament.
They will receive expert tuition in bike polo from Brompton and the London Bike Polo team (pictured). All bikes, helmets and equipment will be provided. Teams can bring as big a support crew as they want.
The winning team will not only receive the accolade of being crowned Bulldog Brompton Challenge 2016 champions, but each team member will also receive a customised Brompton bike complete with Cocktail Kingdom bar kit and a 1.75-litre bottle of Bulldog Gin.
The competition was developed to draw on Bulldog Gin and Brompton’s shared vision of “reinventing traditional products to create bold, distinctive and pioneering offerings for a modern world”.
James said: “London Cocktail Week is jam packed this year, but we’re going to end it on a real high with the very first Bulldog Brompton Challenge. Showcasing the speed and agility of these iconic bikes, riders and spectators can expect ferocious and fast-paced action, swinging mallets, a shed-load of goals and the odd mishap as one of the boldest events at this year’s festival gets underway.”

On Friday October 7, Bulldog Gin’s founder Anshuman Vohra will host an exclusive masterclass for the trade where he will share the story of how Bulldog went from an observation over drinks to the world’s fastest-growing gin.
It takes place from 2pm to 4pm at The Boundary. Visit https://drinkup.london/bars/2602/boundary-restaurant/ for more details. Spaces are limited so bartenders looking to attend should contact James@bulldoggin.com early.
People with London Cocktail Week wristbands can visit the Bulldog Gin Hub at The Boundary to enjoy an Etoile de la Nuit cocktail – with Bulldog Gin, rosewater and hibiscus topped with champagne – for £5 instead of the usual £12.
