Burgers, wings and Southern fried chicken are the most popular chicken dishes in pubs and bars, according to research from foodservice supplier Plusfood UK.
American, Mexican and hot and spicy were considered by operators as the most popular flavours when serving chicken in pubs and bars. Poppin’ chicken and chicken wraps were also served in pubs, but are not as popular.
Plusfood, which is a leading supplier of chicken products to the licensed trade, commissioned the independent research to find out the most popular dishes in the pub sector as well as outlets in universities.
Within universities, caterers identified burgers, wraps and wings as the most popular chicken dishes, reflecting the more takeaway nature of eating by students. This was in contrast to sit-down meals in pubs where the dishes are served as main meals or as part of a starter plate or sharing platter.
The most popular flavour choices within student outlets were American, hot and spicy, and Mexican. Southern fried chicken and poppin’ chicken dishes were also sold in universities but were not as popular.
