Bartenders are being challenged to create twists on a Bloody Mary in a competition run by Tabasco.

The first stage of the annual Tabasco British Bloody Mary Challenge 2014 is now open for entries, with a deadline of December 4.

After an initial paper judging round, a shortlist of competitors will be called in for the final at the Blind Pig at Social Eating House in Soho, London, on December 10.

Each contender needs to enter two cocktail recipes. Firstly, the Classic Bloody Mary needs to be made from vodka, tomato juice, any of the Tabasco Pepper Sauces, and a small amount of one other liquid ingredient. The dressing of the glass will be taken into account.

Secondly, the Alternative Bloody Mary allows bartenders to use whatever they wish so long as the recipe contains Tabasco Pepper Sauce.

To enter, contact Tess Robinson at tess@foodmatters.co.uk or on 020 7554 4494.

The winners of the last Tabasco British Bloody Mary Challenge were both from London bars: Marco Piroli of Lab in Soho and George Collyer from The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town in Spitalfields.
