A bartender from Dorset has been declared winner of a competition run by Absolut Vodka to find a new 13th classic vodka cocktail.

Tommo Quy (pictured) from Captain’s Club Hotel and Spa in Christchurch triumphed with Absolut Revival, made by mixing Absolut with Martini Bianco vermouth, lime cordial and plum bitters.

He was one of five bartenders who made it through to the final after Absolut issued a nationwide challenge to find a new classic cocktail. It is part of Pernod Ricard UK’s campaign for Absolut championing 12 classic vodka cocktails such as the Bloody Mary and the Cosmopolitan.

Selected after voting on Facebook, the cocktails were presented to a panel of judges at the final at The Exhibit in Balham in south London. The drinks were judged according to the flavours, presentation, name and story behind the creation.

Tommo has won a trip to Sweden as part of the Absolut Akademi Pro, a bartender-focused education experience that includes a three-day itinerary of activities including vodka craftsmanship, the Stockholm production scene, rule-breaking creativity and creative collaborations.

Tommo said: “I wanted the drink to taste clean and crisp without being complex, so the cocktail can be sipped and savoured. I imagined the cocktail to be enjoyed on a summer terrace, just like the one at Captain’s Club Hotel, with a refreshing taste and a revitalising apple garnish.”

Adam Boita, head of marketing at Pernod Ricard UK, said: “The Absolut #13thClassic competition has been a brilliant platform to highlight the calibre and creativity of the bartender community.

“With the revivalist trend diffusing across the industry, Tommo has captured a classic cocktail with an innovative twist and we’re proud to name his cocktail the #13thClassic.”
