Restaurant group Carluccio’s has introduced a new signature drink for summer developed with pre-batched cocktail specialist Spirit of Zing.
The Sofia Spritz is supplied as a bottled mix of artichoke-infused Tanqueray Gin with rosemary, hyssop, chicory, fennel and black pepper, finished with a savoury olive solution.
Bar staff at the restaurants top up this mix with soda and serve it with a lemon and rosemary garnish (pictured). It is an aromatic, savoury and crisp cocktail that goes well with antipasti, especially cured meat and focaccia bread.
It was inspired by the late Antonio Carluccio’s “Britalian” heritage, combining the British love of gin with quintessentially Italian ingredients. It is named after Antonio’s love of Sofia Loren and Sofia, his pet pig.
It is delivered in cases of 6x750ml bottles, with each bottle containing 10 serves. It is available now across all 105 Carluccio’s restaurants.
Spirit of Zing founder Pritesh Mody said: “Carluccio’s will now benefit from incredible handcrafted cocktails that are consistent across all of their venues without having invest in the complex equipment and training required to produce a drink of such quality.
“We are proud to have the only facility in Europe that can pre-batch cocktails with the same care and complexity found in the best bars.”
Valentina Zampini, Carluccio’s head wine buyer and drinks expert, added: “We’re really pleased to partner with Spirit of Zing on our new signature Sofia Spritz cocktail. By infusing our cocktails with the same ingredients that we use in our dishes we’re able to create a really unique summer serve that offers a modern twist on an Italian classic.”
Spirit of Zing cocktails are hand-produced in small batches in south London at a facility dedicated to pre-batching bartender-quality cocktails. The company, which was set up by the team behind spice specialist World of Zing, also has a unique relationship with Diageo Reserve giving it access to its entire portfolio of premium spirits.
This new deal with Carluccio’s sees Spirit of Zing produce bespoke cocktails for around 150 venues nationwide, ranging from The Doyle Collection hotels and Hippo Inns pub group to Rosa’s Thai Café chain.
