A new competition for Tequila Casco Viejo is open for entries as part of the Northern Restaurant & Bar show with the prize of a VIP visit to Mexico.

It calls on bartenders to submit one unique drink, containing at least 35ml of either Tequila Casco Viejo Blanco or Reposado and taking inspiration from the Camarena Brothers who produce the brand as well as the heritage of Mexico.

All entries must be submitted online at by midnight on Sunday February 28, 2016.

The four finalists, representing northern England, southern England and Wales, London, and Scotland will be invited to the final of the competition at Northern Restaurant & Bar in Manchester on March 16. They will be notified by March 7.

The competition is hosted by Dave Marsland, aka Drinks Enthusiast, and Emporia Brands, the tequilas’ UK distributor.

The winner will visit the tequila-producing region of Arandas as the guest of Casco Viejo – a brand that has beaten the world’s leading tequila brands to win gold and be named “outstanding” in the International Wine and Spirit Competition.

The visit will incorporate the history and heritage of the Camarena Brothers, who have the third biggest agave plantation in Mexico and have been involved in creating many of the best tequilas. The trip will also provide opportunities to find out more about tequila production in the Arandas region.

The drink can contain up to five ingredients, including the garnish, but without any homemade ingredients. Finalists will be given 10 minutes to make their cocktail on the Drinks Live stage in front of a judging panel at the final, which is due to start at 3.15pm.

Tequila Casco Viejo expressions and basic bar equipment will be supplied at the final, with all other ingredients, garnishes and glassware to be provided by the competitor. No electrical equipment can be used on stage.

Judges will be scoring for knowledge on the Tequila Casco Viejo brand, taking in the influence of the recipe idea, the appearance and presentation of the drink, its aroma and its flavour profile.

Northern Restaurant & Bar at Manchester Central will also feature the Spirit Room, a curated selection of spirit brands, and a line-up of tutored tastings and masterclasses from some of the best names in the business in the Drinks Live theatre.
