Castle Leisure Group (CLG) is to create a new food, drink and entertainment venue, Brewhemia, in the heart of Edinburgh.
It is investing £2million in transforming its 29,000 sq ft space occupied by Sportsters Bar & Diner and City Nightclub in the basement of the Scotsman Building in Market Street for a launch in July.
CLG promises the interior will be a “fantastical” space, with six impressive giant copper beer tanks, with trading across five separate areas, each with their own identity. It is described as a “beer palace, kitchen, caffè and prosecco bar”.
Tracey McRorie, commercial director of CLG, said: “Brewhemia was born from our vision to create a completely new venue concept – a place where everyone can come together to enjoy great company, delicious food, great drinks and even better entertainment, with a choice of environments across the venue that evolve throughout the day in line with our customers’ needs.
“We want to appeal to people of all ages and strive to accommodate every event, from a family lunch to a night of cocktails. The ethos of Brewhemia is ‘For the love of adventure’ and we have worked very hard to encapsulate this adventurous spirit through each and every aspect of the brand.”
The new venue will employ over 100 people. Food will be led by head chef Christopher MacDiarmid who was previously executive chef at Edinburgh venue Ghillie Dhu. He is developing an “exciting and innovative dining experience” at Brewhemia.
CLG has traded the Market Street site successfully for the last 13 years but felt it was time to create a new, innovative offering for Edinburgh’s booming food and drink scene as part of the rejuvenation of Market Street and the Old Town.
