Celebrate the cocktail at London Cocktail Week

london cocktail week

Bars and drinks brands across London will celebrate cocktail culture with events and other activities with London Cocktail Week from October 6 to 12. Now in its fifth year, it will feature Cocktail Tours where 200 bars will offer bespoke £4 cocktails for people wearing wristbands, which cost £10 in advance or £15 once the week begins – and are free to the bar and drinks trade. New for this year, The Luxe List has been created in association with Belvedere Vodka, with six bars in Mayfair offering an exclusive signature serve at the reduced rate of £8 each, available with a booking only.

Wristbands will be available from any of the London Cocktail Week “hubs” which will also offer information and host tastings and master classes. The main hub is in Seven Dials, Covent Garden, sponsored by Ketel One vodka, with the Cointreau Hub at Bluebird in King’s Road, the Tanqueray Hub at Hixter in Devonshire Square and The Whisky Exchange Hub in Borough Market. ¬

Also new for this year is the Bartenders’ Centre, offering back-to-back seminars to members of the bar and drinks industry throughout the week. There will be four seminars per day running from midday until 5.30pm, with topics ranging from “The Sloe Drinks Movement”, with cocktail and spirits experts Jared Brown and Anistatia Miller, to a seminar from the award-winning team at Shoreditch bar White Lyan. Seminars cost £10 to attend, with profits going to The Bartender’s Best Scholarship Trust. It will also feature a cross-branded pop-up bar which, as well as offering £4 cocktails for wristband wearers, will host more informal training sessions throughout the day.

Bacardi Brown-Forman Brands’ Training Hub will be at Seven Dials Club from Monday to Friday. Led by its training team, topics will include malt whiskies and the links between fragrance and gin. There will also be a whiskey tasting with Woodford Reserve master distiller Chris Morris, a talk by Zdeněk Kaštánek and Michael Callahan on their award-winning Singapore bar 28 Hongkong Street, and a session on the French Martini by Chambord UK ambassador Frank McGivern and bartender Ally Martin of London bar Peg + Patriot.

On the Monday alone, events will include a Bartender Breakfast at Red Bull Studios, the Pernod Ricard Oldbarsuperstar Extravaganza in Shoreditch, the UK final of the Monin and Plantation rum Bartenders Challenge Cup at Covent Garden Arts Club and the announcement of the Bartender’s Best winners – awards for the best drinks products chosen by top bartenders. Monday is also the trade-only day for the Whisky Exchange Whisky Show at Vinopolis at Borough Market.

Pop-up bars will be clustered around Seven Dials from the likes of Monkey Shoulder whisky, El Dorado rum, The Famous Grouse whisky, Belvedere Vodka, Bulleit Bourbon and Zacapa rum while Shoreditch will host pop-ups from Tanqueray gin, Angostura, Jose Cuervo tequila, Tia Maria and Don Julio tequila as well as the final of the Monin Cup at Monin Studio on the Tuesday.
