The Jefferson’s Presidential Selection range of bourbons is to be further developed in the UK after becoming part of the portfolio of leading drinks company Cellar Trends.

It will distribute the premium and super-premium whiskeys to top-end bars, restaurants and hotels throughout the UK as well as specialist whisky retailers.

It follows Cellar Trends’ appointment to distribute the spirits brands of Spain’s Gonzalez Byass, including The London No 1 gin and the newly launched Nomad Outland Whisky.

The “very small-batch” Jefferson’s Bourbon and Jefferson’s Reserve Bourbon are produced by blending spirit from eight to 12 barrels of varying ages.

The brand was set up by master blender Trey Zoeller and his father Chet in 2001, creating the products by buying in small, esoteric lots of whiskey chosen for their quality, age and flavour profiles.

The Jefferson’s range, which also includes a rye whiskey and the aged Presidential Select bourbon, was launched in the UK three years ago through premium spirits specialist Love Drinks.

Terry Barker, marketing and sales director of Cellar Trends, said: “The addition of Jefferson’s Bourbon enhances an already prestige line-up of whiskies in our portfolio.

“Cellar Trends has a proven track record as brand builders as well as strong whisky credentials and a passion to complement our portfolio with a bourbon whiskey.

“Our UK sales team delivers national coverage and has a strong presence among premium and top-end bars in London.”

Through Cellar Trends’ new distribution deal with Gonzalez Byass, it will initially look after only The London No 1 gin and Nomad Outland Whisky but other Gonzalez Byass brands will be brought into the portfolio later in the year.

Launched globally in July, Nomad Outland Whisky is an aged whisky from Scotland that has been brought to Gonzalez Byass’s bodegas in Jerez for ageing in barrels previously used for Pedro Ximenez sherry.

It has been created by master blender Antonio Flores of Gonzalez Byass and Richard Paterson who is master distiller for The Dalmore whiskies.

The London No 1 Gin, which is the number-two super-premium gin brand in Spain, is produced in London and uses 12 botanicals including bergamot, cinnamon, savory, orris root, coriander, angelica, liquorice, orange and lemon peel, cassia bark and juniper.

Terry said: “We are extremely pleased to be working with Gonzalez Byass, an international company with a track record of integrity and success. The Gonzalez Byass spirits portfolio will complement our existing portfolio of premium and prestige brands well. We look forward to working with the Gonzalez Byass team in Spain to build these brands in the UK.”

Martin Skelton, managing director of Gonzalez Byass UK, said: “Cellar Trends are the ideal partner for Gonzalez Byass and we believe their existing credentials are proof that they will be very effective in building our premium spirits brands in the UK.

“Whilst we may be better known in the UK for our sherries and wines, we have a collection of superb quality premium spirits which have had great success in the Spanish and other international markets. Cellar Trends will be instrumental is ensuring continued success in this market.”
