Emporia Brands and Chairman’s Reserve rum have named Milk in Reading the winning bar of 2019’s Mai Tai competition.
The team of Connie Cain and Andy Turner of Milk in Reading topped the voting board at London Cocktail Club’s Old Street venue on 25 September, once again coming out first after winning the 2017 final.
For this year’s competition, entrants had to create and promote their twist on Trader Vic’s original Mai Tai recipe, using Chairman’s Reserve rum.
At the final, the fourth to be held since the campaign inauguration in 2016, each bar team showed off their recipe at a packed London venue, where attendees and VIPs from across the UK voted for their favourite Mai Tai of the evening.
Milk’s Mai Tai creation, Diamond of Dennery (recipe below), beat off competition from three fellow finalists: Twisted Lemon of Brighton, Circle Lounge from Halifax and London Cocktail Club in Shaftesbury Avenue.

30ml Chairman’s Reserve Spiced Rum
15ml Chairman’s Reserve Original Rum
25ml fresh lime juice
30ml Milk Spiced Mix No 5
2 dashes Peach bitters
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Shake and strain into a bamboo tiki vessel and garnish with pineapple.
