St Lucian rum Chairman’s Reserve has launched the Chairman’s Spice Lab, a programme designed to showcase the abilities and understanding of the spice rum category by bartenders around the world.
Open in ten countries – the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Greece, China, the United States and Saint Lucia – the Chairman’s Spice Lab will offer an opportunity for three bartenders to create their own limited edition of Chairman’s Spiced Rum together in St Lucia.
The limited edition will then be marketed internationally. Part of the profits from the sale of the rum will be donated to local associations to help the hospitality community in Saint Lucia, which has been deeply affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
At the end of the competition, which is made up of three stages, one winner will be selected from Europe/Asia, one from the US and one from Saint Lucia.
Bartenders must first register and present their project online at www.chairmansreserverum.com/spicelab.
Submissions should include the entrant’s vision of spiced rum; inspirations; the blend of spices provided in their recipe; the rum’s suggested serve; and their motivation to become the next ambassador of Chairman’s Spiced Rum.
Bartenders selected for phase two will be notified in June and will receive a Chairman’s Reserve spice kit containing six spices to be used. Each bartender will be able to add a maximum of three additional spices.
This creation phase will end in September, giving bartenders at least two months to perfect their spiced rum recipe and promote it in their community, through bar activations and beyond.
At the end of the second round, the best creations and projects from each market will be selected for phrase three. Those selected in each country will be presented to an international jury of professionals at the end of September.
The three winning bartenders will be chosen and invited to Saint Lucia in November 2020 to create their limited edition of Chairman’s Spiced Rum together, in collaboration with the R&D team from Chairman’s Reserve.
The limited edition spiced rum will be launched internationally in 2021.
