Chelsie Bailey crowned Bacardí Legacy UK finalist

Bristol bartender Chelsie Bailey has been named UK finalist for 2019’s Bacardí Legacy cocktail competition and will travel to Amsterdam for the global final in May.

After battling it out in the competition’s regional heats, Chelsie competed against three other UK bartenders to secure her place as a finalist.

Made from Bacardí Reserva Ocho rum, cream sherry, apricot liquor, lemon and orange zest, Chelsie’s Legacy cocktail Rum Reverie won over the judges in her first ever entry to the competition.

Originally from Slough, Chelsie previously held positions in a number of Bristol establishments including Mitchell & Butler, The Rummer Hotel and Redlight before her current position at Filthy xiii.

Over the course of her career Bailey has developed a ‘black book’ of cocktail recipes housing over 13 years of knowledge and secrets. The bartender undertook a military-style analysis of over 150 Bacardí Legacy cocktails from past competitions to perfect her winning drink.

Chelsie said: “I’m absolutely honoured to have been selected to represent the UK in this year’s global Legacy final in Amsterdam.

“To even have made it to the UK final and compete against such accomplished bartenders felt like a huge achievement so I’m really excited to have the chance to take Rum Reverie all the way.”

Metinee Kongsrivilai, UK Brand Ambassador for Bacardí, added: “This year’s four most promising bartenders produced an extremely high calibre of cocktails.

It’s always a tough decision to make at this stage of the competition but we felt Rum Reverie is a true expression of Chelsie’s journey as a bartender, combining years of knowledge and expertise in one glass.

43 finalists will embark on a week of education and collaboration before competing in the global final of Bacardí Legacy, which will take place in Amsterdam on 14 May.

Rum Reverie
25ml Bacardí Reserva Ocho rum
25ml Cream sherry
25ml Apricot liqueur
25ml Fresh lemon juice
Slice of orange
Shake with cubed ice. Double strain and serve in a coupette. Garnish with orange zest (then discard).
