Cities’ bartenders to battle to be north-west’s tequila ‘campeon’

Liverpool Maritime Museum

Bartenders from Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds will battle it out in a cocktail competition held as part of Tequila & Mezcal Fest in Liverpool in August.

Supported by Casco Viejo Tequila, the search for the north-west’s cocktail “campeon” will feature teams made up of five bartenders, including a team captain, brought together from different bars in each city.

It will be one of the highlights of Tequila & Mezcal Fest which takes place at Liverpool’s Merseyside Maritime Museum on August 8 and 9. It is run by the team behind Tequila & Mezcal Fest which takes place in London in September.

Each team will have 15 minutes to impress the judges in making two drinks that reflect the family heritage of the Camarena brothers – who are behind Casco Viejo and other leading tequilas – and encapsulate Mexican culture.

The first unique serve must be created by the team captain, using at least 25ml of either Casco Viejo Blanco or Reposado, and the second needs to be a unique party punch using at least 500ml of either Casco Viejo Blanco or Reposado, which will be created by the rest of the team.

Dave Marsland, of Emporia Brands and Drinks Enthusiast, will host the competition in which one of the teams will win a hamper of Casco Viejo Tequila and other Mexican goodies.

Eduardo Gomez Resediz, founder and director of Tequila & Mezcal Fest, said: “This year is a special year for Tequila & Mezcal Fest as it’s the year of Mexico in the UK and the UK in Mexico, and to celebrate we’re looking for two unique serves that really capture the spirit of Mexico right here in the north-west.”
