Claridge’s Bar in London is exclusively offering a worldwide preview of a new champagne expression from Veuve Clicquot Maison.
Due to be launched globally in October, La Grande Dame 2006 will be the finest release from Veuve Clicquot Maison with rich, complex flavours.
It is Claridge’s Bar’s featured “Champagne of the Month” throughout July, offered by the glass or as an indulgent pairing with Aquitaine caviar and jumbo prawn tempura.
La Grande Dame 2006 is an exclusive blend of Veuve Clicquot’s eight classic Grands Crus vineyards around the villages of Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay, Verzy and Verzenay for the Pinot Noir (53%) and Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for the Chardonnay (47%).
2006 produced superb-quality grapes in Champagne, with full ripe Pinot Noir and very typical, fresh intense Chardonnay. Thanks to its long ageing, La Grande Dame 2006 is a complex wine that is intensely golden yellow with a nose that is mineral at first then floral, with hints of fresh fruit, such as vine peaches and pears, and finally overlaid with hazelnut and toasted almonds.
After a few minutes, the aromas become even richer, with notes of brioche, nougat, ginger and preserved lemon. The palate is at once full, silky yet crisp and the minerality of the chalk resonates through the fleshy structure, adding to the length of the finish.
Claridge’s Bar at the five-star Claridge’s Hotel in Mayfair is open from Monday to Saturday from midday until 1am and on Sundays from midday until midnight.
