The creator of leading bitters brand Dr Adam Elmegirab has launched a range of beard oils inspired by the ingredients used in his products.
Adam Elmegirab, a former bartender based in Aberdeen, has developed Barbarossa’s Beard Oil, based on the botanicals in his Spanish Bitters, and Morrissey’s Beard Oil, based on his Dead Rabbit Orinoco Bitters.
He created them partly as a “tongue-in-cheek stab at male bartenders’ penchant for beards” but also to show how aromas generally impact on memories, expectations and tastes.
They will also raise funds for men’s health charities, with 5% of all sales going to Prostate Cancer UK. Adam himself is raising funds by running a total of 1,000 kilometres in 2016.
He said: “To put it simply, beard oil moisturises your facial hair to keep the beard soft, smooth, healthy and easier to groom. It also hydrates the skin underneath which often doesn’t get the care it needs. Use it twice a day, in the morning and once at night, and you’ll quickly understand the benefits. It also makes your beard smell awesome!”
The first two beard oils are at opposite ends of the aromatic spectrum. Dr Adam Elmegirab’s Barbarossa’s Beard Oil is named after the famous Ottoman admiral Hayreddin Barbarossa.
Inspired by Dr Adam Elmegirab’s Spanish Bitters, it calls for the likes of orange oil, lemon oil, coriander oil, camomile oil and violet oil which lend a fresh, floral and citrus profile.
Dr Adam Elmegirab’s Morrissey’s Beard Oil is named for John Morrissey, aka Old Smoke, who was the leader of the notorious Dead Rabbits – an Irish-American gang in New York City in the 1850s.
His character is reflected in the use of aromas such as cinnamon oil, cassia oil, sandalwood oil, camomile oil and orange oil, offering a lively, fiery and spicy profile.
It is inspired by Dr Adam Elmegirab’s Dead Rabbit Orinoco Bitters which were created in an exclusive partnership with world-class bar The Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog in Manhattan.
Available in 50ml bottles, both beard oils are produced using a base of jojoba oil and grapeseed oil, with only 100% pure oils being used. As with Dr Adam Elmegirab’s bitters, they do not contain any artificial ingredients. They are available to buy online.
Adam has had international success with his bitters which debuted in 2009 with his reformulation of classic Boker’s Bitters. Subsequent launches under his Dr Adam Elmegirab brand name include Dandelion & Burdock Bitters, Aphrodite Bitters and Teapot Bitters.
