Gabriela Moncada, UK brand ambassador for Jose Cuervo tequila, points out that tequila is good not just for refreshing Margaritas in the summer but for twisting with seasonal flavours. “Here’s a great cocktail recipe, which puts a winter twist on the Margarita — the sweet element coming from cinnamon and the sour from cranberry and lime.”

50ml Jose Cuervo Tradicional Reposado
10ml Cinnamon syrup
15ml Lime juice (juice of half a lime)
Cranberry juice
Stir the first three ingredients together in a highball glass until dissolved. Add ice and top up with cranberry juice – 100ml, more or less, depending on the size of the glass. To make the cinnamon syrup, leave four cinnamon sticks in 500ml of boiling water for about 10 minutes to infuse. Discard the stick and add 250g of caster sugar, stirring until dissolved.

At Fortnum & Mason in London’s West End throughout December, a selection of seasonal cocktails have been available as part of its in-store tastings for super-premium D1 London Gin.

Serves, pictured below, include combining the gin with Fortnum & Mason’s spiced Christmas Tea for a tea-infused gin hot toddy – a good match for the nettle botanical used in D1 London Gin. The tea blend, which uses cloves, star anise and safflower petals, is mixed with sugar, cinnamon and orange.

The D1 Christmas Cosmopolitan combines the gin with Cointreau, cranberry sauce and lime juice with a fig garnish. The Festive Toffee Apple Sour marries toffee syrup and apple juice with gin and lemon juice, with a seasonal garnish of cinnamon, caramelised blackberry and apple or plum.
