Cocktails set to bring fire and smoke for Bonfire Night

Smoky aromas and autumnal flavours are being captured by London bars with cocktails inspired by Bonfire Night.

To tie in with Guy Fawkes celebrations from Thursday (November 5), Bourne and Hollingsworth Buildings in Clerkenwell has created a warming Smoked Heather Dram (pictured below). It features Laphroaig Quarter Cask whisky, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao, sweet vermouth, apple juice and orange zest – which is then flambéed.

Royal China restaurants in Baker Street and Canary Wharf have devised a Bonfire Night cocktail that unites East and West. The Firecracker (pictured top) is a spicy mix of rum, coriander, fresh red chillies and mango juice, topped with ice-cold champagne, priced £14.50.

Bonfire Night has also inspired a cocktail which will be served on Friday (November 6) at a new late-night drinking event at modern Asian restaurant Bó Drake in Soho. Head bartender Darren Farmer has created the Cherry Bomb Sour – an autumnal blend of vodka, lime, crème de mûre and cherry. Other Bó Drake signature cocktails include the Big Smoke made with Hakushu 12 Year Old whisky mixed with bamboo syrup and Antica Formula. It will be the first of a new series of seasonally themed late-night drinking events held on Fridays and Saturdays all year round.

At The Cocktail Trading Company’s new bar in Smithfield, they are suggesting people escape the cold November night with a Hop Buttered Bun (pictured below) made with wheat beer, Bols Genever infused with raisin and nutmeg and spiced butter syrup.
