Efforts to promote the signature serve of the Cointreau Fizz have been boosted by Marriott which has put the drink on the menus at all 50 of its hotels in the UK.
The partnership between the hotel brand and Cointreau will include training sessions for bartenders in the serve, which is made by mixing the liqueur with fresh lime juice and sparkling water over ice.
Highlighting how fruits and other ingredients can enhance the drink, the programme is supported by an incentive offering the most successful and creative bartenders a chance to win eight trips to the Cointreau distillery in Angers in France.
The distillery is home to the Cointreau Academy which will take bartenders through the production and history of the liqueur and give them a chance to meet master distiller Bernadette Langlais, attend private tastings, visit secret rooms only known to a few, and sample original cocktails.
Jenia Matthews, marketing manager at Rémy Cointreau UK, said: “We’re very excited about this partnership with Marriott Hotels and look forward to Cointreau Fizz becoming the drink of choice amongst Marriott guests during this spring.”
Markus Lewe, marketing vice president at Marriott Hotels UK, added: “We are delighted to introduce Cointreau Fizz to our Marriott Hotels in the UK and to have the opportunity to send eight of our talented bartenders to the Cointreau Academy in Angers so they can inspire our guests with tasty cocktail creations.”
The Cointreau Fizz was first mentioned in Jean Lupoiu’s Cocktails Book of 1948 and is being promoted by the brand as it puts the liqueur centre stage as the base of a simple serve that can be easily adapted with fresh fruit, berries, herbs, and spices.
