Competition launched to find Britain’s best breakfast

Aviko Breakfast Bap

A competition to find the best breakfast in Britain has been launched by foodservice potato specialist Aviko.

Its Great British Breakfast Competition is open to bars, pubs, restaurants, chefs and other caterers and covers two categories: best hot breakfast and best breakfast bap.

Entry is at where they need to say in no more than 50 words what it is that makes their breakfast great. The prize is a weekend for two people in London with breakfast at The Wolseley in St James’s.

Mohammed Essa, general manager for the UK and Ireland at Aviko, said: “The breakfast and brunch market is booming – almost a third of people choose to eat it out-of-home at least once a week – so it creates an exciting opportunity for operators and their customers to try something different.

“We want to showcase and reward those operators that are making the most of this demand and taking their menus to the next level in innovation, whether that’s with unique presentation ideas, interesting flavour combinations or even using eggs from their own hens!

“What better reward for their efforts than a short break in the epicentre of the UK dining scene and sampling an iconic breakfast at The Wolseley!”

The Great British Breakfast Competition is open for entries from now until midnight on October 9, 2015.

It forms part of Aviko’s Great British Breakfast campaign, including video and point-of-sale materials, which has been developed to support operators with tapping into growing demand for breakfast out of the home.

Mohammed added: “Caterers who carefully consider their morning menus and tap into the growing breakfast market can really profit. An easy win is to include items such as hash browns, which have become a staple of the great British breakfast with 68% of people expecting them to be included and 80% willing to pay 50p more for them. They provide an important opportunity for caterers to deliver the breakfast of champions.”

Aviko has a range of breakfast items including Hash Browns, Hash Brown Bites, and Bubble & Squeak Rounds, made from 100% real cream, savoy cabbage, fried onions, parsley, chervil and black pepper.
