Cuban rum brand Black Tears launches in the UK

Black Tears Cuban rum

Rum producer The Island Rum Company has launched a dry spiced Cuban rum called Black Tears in the UK.

Distilled from molasses and sourced from four mills in the province of Ciego de Avila, near Cuba’s northern coast, Black Tears (40% ABV) is spiced with coffee and cacao, and infused with ají dulce, a variety of small sweet peppers.

The brand hopes to “buck the trend” of sweet, vanilla-based rums that dominate the spiced rum markets, offering a “more authentic, bittersweet flavour” and low sugar content.

As well as its signature serve, which combines the rum with tonic and ice, garnished with an orange slice and habanero pepper, Black Tears also works well in a variety of long drinks and cocktails, including The Double Black, Chocolate Mojito, The Black Tear and The Black Cuban.

Adele Robberstad, CEO of the Island Rum Company, said: “Cubans express themselves in everything they do. When they create a spirit, it’s an expression of their emotions. When people around the world taste Black Tears, they will want to express themselves too.”
