Danilo Frigulti from Viajante87 bar in London has been recognised as the country’s best bartender and will be on his way to Shanghai in September to represent Great Britain at the World Class Global Finals, where the world’s best bartender will be crowned.

Danilo shook off the competition from hundreds of other bartenders from across the country to win the coveted title. The competition saw Danilo participate in a series of challenges against 22 other finalists over two days in London, with judges including last year’s winner, Matt Arnold, and industry legends Erik Lorincz and Sandrae Lawrence.

From the Don Julio: Outside the Box challenge, which saw the finalists working with Don Julio Tequila to create any style of cocktail they like but with completely unknown ingredients presented to them in a mystery box, and the Walker of the World challenge, where the finalists created cocktails inspired by a particular country using Johnnie Walker Blue and Black Label, the contestants were put through their paces.  The final 10 contestants were then challenged to take part in an epic speed round, creating four cocktails in four minutes; it was after this round that Danilo was named GB bartender of the year.

Speaking just after his win; Danilo said: Wow, this is incredible; I’ve worked in this amazing industry for 5 years now and I’m so proud to be recognised like this for a career and industry I feel so lucky to be part of.  Thank you so much to my team and mentors for being so generous with their time and wisdom, you’ve all helped me get to this point and I can’t wait to represent Great Britain in Shanghai!

World Class organisers and ambassadors, Jo Last and Pippa Guy commented on Danilo’s win: We couldn’t be happier to crown Danilo as our World Class winner. What an amazing few days and what an incredible winner.  Danilo is a true credit to the British bartending community and we can’t wait to mentor him in his journey to the global finals in Shanghai.

Guests enjoyed a variety of cocktails throughout the evening, including ‘Coconut & Guava’ – which included The Singleton, and ‘Dinosaur Food’; a cocktail created by last year’s winner, Matt Arnold, heroing Johnnie Walker Black Label. Attendees were also treated to the Fever-Tree Highball Bar; a stunning collection of highballs all featuring Fever-Tree.  From the Johnnie & Elderflower to the Grove Cup which included Seedlip’s Grove 42, highballs including low alcohol and alcohol-free options were great alternatives for guests throughout the evening.
