Deadline extended for Funkin Innovation Champion 2019

Funkin Cocktails has announced that it is extending the deadline for the Funkin Innovation Champion 2019 competition.

Bartenders now have until 16 August to get their entries in to stand the chance of winning £1,000 cash, a one year, part-time contract with the fruit purée and cocktail mixer brand, and an all-expenses paid, immersive trip to Bar Convent Berlin.

Offering a prize value totalling £6,000 and the invaluable opportunity to raise your profile in the trade media, Funkin Innovation Champion is seeking bartenders with a passion for purée and a flair for innovation and creativity.

Those lucky enough to make it through to the final on Tuesday 10 September will receive a bespoke day-long creative session at Crucible in London.

Crucible director, Stuart Bale, along with his team of experts will lead the session, enabling finalists to learn, experiment and challenge themselves to create outstanding cocktails.

To enter, bartenders must create an original Funkin cocktail, taking inspiration from the 1990s, the decade when Funkin Cocktails was launched. An era when the Cosmopolitan ruled, Sex and the City, Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air were on our screens and Ice Ice Baby pumped out of radios across the UK.

Ben Anderson, Funkin Cocktails marketing director, said: “The Funkin Innovation Champion competition is looking for bartenders who can truly shake up the ordinary.

“Funkin has brought innovation to the cocktail industry for 20 years and this year we are asking our competitors to celebrate the 1990s, a decade famous for fun.”

The cocktail can be complex or simple, however it should be easy to replicate. It must feature one Funkin Pro Purée and Funkin Pro Cocktail Syrup with a minimum of 25ml purée.

Shaun Hall, Funkin Innovation Champion 2018, said: “Becoming Funkin Innovation Champion gave me the opportunity to grow and develop as a bartender and make some great contacts in the industry

“I’ve collaborated with the company, travelled and helped develop new ideas and serves. The final was a fantastic experience and I’d urge all bartenders to enter the competition.”

Previous Funkin Innovation Champions have gone on to open a consultancy firm, become a brand ambassador for a leading spirits brand, open their own bar and also take up a permanent role within Funkin Cocktails.
