Diageo reveals destination for World Class global final

diageo world class logoDiageo has revealed the locations for the international final of its World Class global bartender competition – London and Scotland.

After previous global finals took bartenders to Rio de Janeiro, Athens and New Delhi and on a luxury Mediterranean cruise, the destinations for this July’s events were chosen because the UK is the host nation.

It will see 50 of the world’s best bartenders travel to Scotland for the first stage of the final, which will include a chance to experience the art of blending whisky.

They will then be taken on a luxury train journey straight to London where they will be able to find out why the UK capital is considered one of the best cities in the world for cocktail bars.

Along the way, they will undertake a series of unique challenges with a distinctly British edge, enabling them to showcase their talents.

Their efforts will be judged by some of the world’s most respected authorities in mixology and witnessed by leading industry gurus, drinks writers and a selection of guest judges.

This year, for the first time ever, consumers will be able to participate in the final week through masterclasses, cocktail-themed events and challenges.

Nick Temperley, head of Reserve Brands at Diageo GB, said: “We are so proud and excited that the global World Class final is returning home to where it all began.

“The dual location of London and Scotland will offer the international bartenders a rich mix of tradition, brand history and heritage, coupled with the most progressive, entrepreneurial cocktail culture in the world.

“We look forward to welcoming the world’s best bartenders to the UK and we hope to make it the most memorable global final to date.”

Launched in the UK in 2007, World Class has become the biggest international competition for professional bartenders.

To reach the final, bartenders across the globe will have been through nearly a year of qualifiers and heats at national and regional levels. This year’s final takes place from July 28 to August 1.
