Disaronno Mixing Star 2013: Edinburgh casting

Ian SandersonIan Sanderson (pictured) of Tiki Bar in Glasgow won the Edinburgh heat of the film-themed Disaronno Mixing Star competition.

His cocktail, Marcello’s Old Flame, was inspired by Italian film La Dolce Vita and combined Disaronno with Green Chartreuse, lemon juice, a whole egg and a homemade sweet vermouth infused with rosemary, damson and plum. It was served in a silver tankard garnished with an orange peel twist and rosemary.

A close second was Ben McLellan from Bond No 9 in Leith, with a cocktail based on the 2004 thriller Dead Man’s Shoes.

Third was Danil Nevsky, formerly at Orchid in Aberdeen but now at Tales and Spirits in Amsterdam, who was inspired by the film Some Like It Hot.

He was one of three UK winners who competed against bartenders from across Europe at the global final in Amsterdam on July 4. Click here for a report on the final at www.barmagazine.co.uk.

The Edinburgh heat was held at the city’s Scotsman Hotel, with a judging panel made up of Bar magazine editor Mark Ludmon, Simon Difford of Diffords Guide and Jonatan Ferri Abarbanel, global brand ambassador for Disaronno.
