Don Papa announce UK Chefs & Shakers competition with Matt Arnold

For 2024, Filipino rum brand Don Papa have brought their infamous hospitality competition Chefs and Shakers to the UK, giving chefs and bartenders the chance to team up to create a delicious Don Papa cocktail and food dish pairing to the theme ‘Food by Fire’, all to win a trip to the Philippines.

The competition, now closed for 2024, was open to entrants, professional and amateur, following which, all entrants will be considered and finalists will be selected by our industry leading judging trio, with the final being held on 4th July, followed by a BIG Don Papa style celebration.

Excitingly, Don Papa has teamed up with three influential industry figures, Filipino chef Budgie Montoya, ACME Fire Cult founder Andrew Clarke and World Class GB finalist and master mixologist Matt Arnold.

Matt currently has a drink named the Bananarama that is spotlighting Don Papa on the menu at Passing Fancies, which is a short and fatty style of serve that marries banana three ways alongside caramel and of course the Don himself.

Matt says: ‘We are extremely lucky and proud of our bar team where all 5 have made it into the Top 100 Bartenders in the UK and therefore we will have a menu showing off their serves over the coming weeks. A perfect chance to try some award-winning cocktails.’

‘We always say that we are a community venue and we are currently supporting a good friend and bartender who is based in Manchester who is unfortunately having to go through Cancer treatment. It is an issue that came completely out of the blue and as a result, there’s been a lot of stress both emotionally and financially on him and his family. So we decided we wanted to help and have created a Lychee Martini where a set £2 of each drink goes directly to him and his family to ease the current situation. A drink that is truly garnished for good.’
