A limited-edition premium rum made from a batch of rare casks has been released by Don Papa Rum.
It has been aged for “several years” in selected over-roasted and toasted American oak casks. The rum is unfiltered and unblended, bottled at 50.5% ABV to retain its character and flavours.
Rich and powerful on the nose, smooth and fruity on the mouth, with a long and fresh finish, Don Papa Rare Cask is dark amber and described as offering rich, complex flavours of oak, cacao, and fruitcake, with a hint of fresh mint on the finish.
Don Papa Rare Cask joins the original Don Papa and the Don Papa 10-year-old Limited Edition, all produced near Mount Kanlaon on the island of Negros in the Philippines.
Only 6,000 numbered bottles have been released globally, packaged in a wooden canister, with intricate details of Don Papa’s island home and Papa Isio, the local revolutionary and shaman that inspired the rum.
To commemorate the launch, Don Papa commissioned acclaimed wood sculptor Dave Johnson to recreate the bottle and its intricate label in a one-off wood sculpture for a launch event at TT Liquor in London.
