Don Papa unveils Sherry Casks Finish limited edition rum

Don Papa Sherry Casks

Philippines-based premium rum brand Don Papa has introduced a new limited edition expression finished in sherry casks to its growing portfolio.

Sherry Casks Finish joins the original Don Papa, Don Papa 10 year-old, and Rare Cask in the Don Papa collection.

The column distilled molasses based rum is first aged for four years in American oak ex bourbon casks followed by 18 months in four different types of sherry casks: Fino, Pedro Ximenez, Cream and Palo Cortado.

Following this, the rums are carefully blended by Don Papa’s master blender to produce a limited edition expression, unfiltered and bottled at 45% ABV.

Described as “smooth and fruity on the nose”, with notes of plum, dark chocolate, and ripe figs, the flavours and textures brought upon by the blend of the different sherry casks are said to “bring another dimension” to the Don Papa drinking experience.

Sherry Casks Finish is presented in a baroque-inspired design by packaging design partner Stranger & Stranger, reflecting aspects of the island’s Spanish heritage whilst keeping the irreverence of Papa Isio’s story, originally a foreman in a sugar plantation turned revolutionary hero who battled for his country’s independence.

Distributed in the UK by Quintessential Brands, Sherry Casks Finish will be available exclusively at Harvey Nichols and in a selection of bars and restaurants UK-wide.

After launches in Rome and Madrid, the Don Papa team chose to launch the new Sherry Cask Finish to UK press and drinks industry during London Cocktail Week, surrounded by the baroque decadence of the Court Room at St Andrew’s Church in Holborn.

The brand hosted a Spanish and Filipino tapas and sherry pairing banquet created by acclaimed Spanish chef Joseba Lasa, with sherry and wine commentary from Adrian Smith, soon to be star of Amazon Prime show – The Three Drinkers. The Brunel Quartet provided a baroque inspired soundtrack to the gastronomic experience.
