Puerto Rico’s Destilería Serrallés, the distillery which produces Don Q Rum, has released a limited edition Double Aged Sherry Cask Finish Rum in the UK.
The rum has been created by sixth generation rum maker Roberto Serrallés and master blender Jaiker Soto as part of the distillery’s continued focus on unique barrel-aged expressions.
Rums aged for five to eight years in American white oak barrels have been hand selected and blended, before a further year of aeging takes place in select sherry casks previously used for Spanish oloroso sherry.
The Double Aged Sherry Cask Finish Rum (41% ABV) boasts “an aroma of toasted oak, cherry, dried fruit and tobacco”. On the palette it hints of “delicate charred wood, honey, toasted almonds, raisins, dark chocolate and creamy melted caramel”.
Roberto Serrallés, sixth-generation rum maker and business development vice president, said: “Blending innovation, art and science has been characteristic of the way our family has crafted exceptional spirits for the last 154 years. This unique ageing process has resulted in a rum that is complex, elegant and exceptionally pleasant to the palate.”
Nick Gillett, managing director for Mangrove UK, which distributes the new rum in the UK, added: “On-trade specialists looking for an innovative, premium expression that combines taste with being environmentally conscious and an amazing provenance, will welcome this special release from Destilería Serrallés.
“It has a distinct smoothness and complex flavour best enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a spirit-forward cocktail.”
