Bartenders can win a VIP trip to the Netherlands in a cocktail competition run with Double Dutch Drinks at this year’s Northern Restaurant & Bar (NRB) show.
Competitors are being asked to submit two unique drinks, one for summer and one for winter, containing any of the Double Dutch Drinks range of mixers and drawing on the brand’s Dutch background.

Products from Double Dutch, founded by twin sisters Joyce and Raissa de Haas (pictured) from Antwerp, include Cucumber & Watermelon soda water, Basil & Pomegranate soda water, Indian and Skinny tonic, Cranberry & Ginger tonic and Ginger Beer. Any base spirit can be used to create the new signature serves.
Four finalists, chosen blind by a judging panel of spirit experts, will be notified on March 12 and invited to the final of the competition at NRB in Manchester on Wednesday March 21 at 3.15pm. The competition will be hosted by Dave Marsland aka Drinks Enthusiast with the team from Double Dutch Drinks.
The winner and a guest will visit Amsterdam in 2018 as the guest of Double Dutch and visits bars and restaurants in the city to enjoy Double Dutch serves.
Up to five ingredients are allowed, including garnish and the Double Dutch product, with home-made ingredients not allowed.
Finalists will have a maximum of 10 minutes on the Drinks Live stage at the show for prepping and re-creating their drinks for the judging panel. Double Dutch Drinks expressions and basic bar equipment will be supplied at the final, with all other ingredients, garnishes and glassware to be provided by the competitor. No electrical equipment can be used on stage.
Judges will be scoring for knowledge on the Double Dutch Drinks brand, taking in the influence of the recipe idea, the appearance and presentation of the drink, the aroma of the cocktail and the flavour profile.
Northern Restaurant & Bar is the north’s hospitality exhibition, returning to Manchester Central on March 20 and 21. It will feature 275 exhibitors providing products and services for hospitality businesses, with 65 live food and drink demos.
NRB’s Spirit Room is the largest curated selection of spirit brands on show outside London, brought together by Dave Marsland.
As well as the Double Dutch Drinks cocktail competition, the Drinks Live theatre will feature a line-up of tutored tastings and masterclasses from some of the best names in the business.
