Drake & Morgan announces plans for two new bars

The seven-strong Drake & Morgan group of bars has announced the acquisition of two new sites in central London.

Entering the West End for the first time, it has taken on a 6,000 sq ft site in Regent’s Place, the British Land residential and office development on Marylebone Road south-east of Regent’s Park.

Spread over two floors, the new bar and restaurant will feature a large al fresco terrace and will open in late 2014.

The second venue, opening in early 2015, will be in the new AXA Real Estate development on St Pancras Square at King’s Cross, which will also be home to Google’s new headquarters.

The 12,000 square foot venue will also have al fresco seating in a central courtyard.

Bringing the company’s portfolio to nine, they follow the opening of The Fable (pictured) in Farringdon this year and The Happenstance in St Paul’s last year.

The expansion comes after the £30million acquisition of the company by private equity firm Bowmark Capital last year in support of a management buyout. Last week, it also announced the appointment of a new non-executive chairman, Tony Campbell.

Drake & Morgan managing director Jillian MacLean said: “This is an exciting time for Drake & Morgan as we move into the next stage of our growth post Bowmark’s acquisition last year.

“We’re delighted to be working with AXA again – our landlords at The Happenstance and The Fable – and British Land. At both sites, we are in the company of some really great businesses and fellow leisure operators.”
