Dutch cocktail takeover at W London bar

The bar at W London hotel has gone Dutch to celebrate the opening of the new W hotel in Amsterdam.

A special cocktail menu features liqueurs, spirits and other ingredients from the Netherlands such as Bols Genever and Sloane’s Gin, which is the base of the bar’s version of a Dutch Courage cocktail.

The menu also features Double Dutch tonics which were created by twins Joyce and Raissa de Haas. Available in a choice of pomegranate and basil or cucumber and watermelon, they were launched into the UK this year through Boutique Bar Show.

The cocktails are complemented by a “reimagined” Dutch platter, with dishes including Gouda Kaassouffle (deep fried gouda parcels), Short Rib Bitterballen (a popular dutch snack) and Patatje Oorlog (also known as “war fries”).

The menu has been created by the bar team at W London’s W Lounge and Wyld Bar to tie in with the opening of W Amsterdam this month in Dam Square in the heart of the city.

The public areas of W London have been restyled as an “Ode to Amsterdam” while the hotel’s luxury 39-seater screening room is showing Dutch films such as Black Book by Paul Verhoeven. It runs to October 23.
