Eclectic Bars is to unveil its second outing for its concept Smash that combines craft beers and ciders with pizzas and ping-pong.
After the success of the first in Reading (pictured), it is transforming its former Po Na Na nightclub in The Broadway, Wimbledon in south-west London into the new venue.
Due to open on September 30, it will feature over 60 craft beers and ciders, a selection of handmade Italian pizzas and four Olympic-standard ping-pong tables.
The venue will be open seven days a week, from midday until late, and ping-pong tables will be available for both pre-book and walk-in. The décor will be contemporary, offering a laid-back vibe with exposed brickwork and industrial-style light fittings.
Lee Nicolson, managing director of Eclectic Bars, said: “Our first Smash, in Reading, is proving a huge success which has given us the confidence to further develop this radically different take on an immersive product.
“Table tennis is a social sporting activity and we’re taking it back to its roots by bringing it into the entertainment arena. We’ve added great food and drink and a cool, exciting environment to the mix to make Smash a unique experiential experience.”
Smash’s 12-inch pizzas, which are freshly made on site by its own pizzaiolo and fired in the oven, are designed to be shared, ranging from the popular Mixed Double Pepperoni to the original Tuscan Hustle, with salads, garlic bread and fries on the side. Food is served all day, every day.
Music will be a mix of retro, indie and non-commercial. Live sports events such as the Superbowl will be shown.
Lee added: “Ping-pong provides a fun and unique way to switch off and unwind, whether you’re with friends, family or colleagues. It can be as laid-back or lively as you make it.”
The venue has been designed by CT Creative. Main contractors are ACT Construction Services, the kitchen was designed and installed by Brodale Catering Equipment, with light and sound by Diamond AV.
Eclectic Bars is a subsidiary of The Brighton Pier Group and operates bars and clubs such as Embargo Republica, Lowlander, Lola Lo, Fez, Coalition and Po Na Na – which now has just one site left in Bath.
