Eclectic confirms plans for tiki bar in Derby

Lola Lo ManchesterEclectic Bar Group has announced details of its latest Lola Lo tiki bar which is due to open in Derby in April.

Created in the former site of Coyote Wild in Victoria Street, the 800-capacity bar will cover the ground and first floors, featuring two bars, an Island Grill diner, a spacious dance floor and an upstairs tropical garden.

Designed by tiki specialists Cheeky Tiki, it will be Eclectic’s 20th site and its 10th Lola Lo when it opens on April 4. It follows the opening of a Lola Lo in Manchester’s Deansgate Locks in December (pictured).

The new Derby bar will trade six days a week from midday until the early hours. The traditional Lola Lo music mix of credible club classics and contemporary beats will provide night-time entertainment, along with regular club nights and live performances.

The Island Grill’s menu is typically tiki and includes big skewers, baskets, hot dogs and the teriyaki-glazed Big Kahuna burger.

Food presentation styles feature exotic extras such as banana leaves and homemade sauces. Desserts will include Hawaiian Dobash chocolate cake, pineapple upside-down cake and grilled fruit kebabs.

Lola Lo will serve Grand Café Rainforest’s blend of sustainable coffee.

A tiki store in the foyer area will sell branded T-shirts and other clothing, and all things tiki: leis, straw hats, Hawaiian shirts and 50s-style Hawaiian dresses, as well as Lola Lo’s signature cocktail mugs.

Cocktail service will focus on theatre and flair. Cocktails will be served in bespoke mugs or hollowed-out fruits, using edible flowers as well as sweets such as popping candy and Bounty bars, spiced rum and amaretto and fruit jams.

The ladies’ washroom will provide exclusive access – for ladies only – to a champagne bar with third-party pop-up stands offering beauty services and fashion displays.

Lola Lo “taster evenings” will offer diners a seat at the head chef’s table, followed by a cocktail masterclass with one of Lola’s tiki bartenders. These classes have proved a success at Lola Los around the country.

“The Lola Lo brand continues to evolve,” said Lee Nicolson, Eclectic’s operations director. “We will carry on enhancing the brand and indentifying target towns and cities where we feel that Lola Lo is capable of making a significant contribution to the area’s premium bar offer.”
