El Bandito awarded prestigious mezcaleria accolade

Liverpool bar El Bandito has joined an elite club of UK outlets to become recognised as an official ‘Del Maguey Single Village Mezcaleria’ tequileria.

The Mexican-style basement bar, which is located on Slater Street, positions itself as the best spot in town to enjoy tequila – whether that’s straight up, or in one of the many cocktails from its extensive drinks menu.

To gain recognition as an official mezcaleria, bars must stock the complete range of Del Maguey’s mezcals, celebrating the ‘true heritage’ of the spirit.

This latest accolade makes El Bandito one of only two bars in Liverpool to hold such a prestigious status.

John Ennis, co-founder of Graffiti Spirits Group, the operator behind El Bandito, said: “We are extremely proud to be awarded this accolade. We are in good company, as there are only a small number of bars to ever receive it and we’re officially one of the only Del Maguey Single Village Mezcaleria’s outside of Mexico.

“Being recognised as this is extremely rewarding and we’re looking forward to continue to take the El Bandito brand outside of Liverpool and further certify it as a big player in the tequila and mezcal industry.”

Every establishment rewarded with the Del Maguey accolade receives a blue plaque, which is proudly on show at the entrance of El Bandito.

John added: “The plaque represents our commitment to agave spirits and continued education in the agave spirit world.

“We’re truly proud, because it’s something that we never thought possible and I think it’s also an acknowledgement that the city can be truly proud of too.

“We are hoping for big things for El Bandito in the next few years, so it’s great to have the place where it all began commemorated in this way.”

El Bandito has recently returned from London after a successful takeover of Notting Hill’s Trailer Happiness. The tequileria has also started a three-month residency in the upstairs terrace bar at Wahaca, Liverpool One.
