Entries sought for 2015 ALMR operations managers awards

ALMR operations managers awards

Entries are now open for the 2015 ALMR Operations Managers Awards, the annual search to find the best and brightest in licensed hospitality.

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) is seeking the best area manager at a managed pub and bar operator and the best business development manager at a leased or tenanted business.

The competition tests entrants’ skills, enthusiasm and professionalism, whether working in pubs and bars or the late-night and casual dining sectors. Nominations can be made online at www.almropsawards.org.uk.

Nominees complete an entry paper that is judged by a team of industry professionals who select 20 finalists. These 20 will be assessed by a mentor judge for a day as they work with their managers or lessees.

The 20 finalists will also benefit from a three-day master class led by Ashridge Consulting – a bespoke course that addresses strategic concepts, extends their business awareness and develops leadership skills.

The winners will be announced at the 2015 ALMR Christmas Lunch on December 17.

ALMR chief executive Kate Nicholls said: “Pubs, bars, nightclubs and restaurants are great at identifying and encouraging up-and-coming talent. The ALMR Operations Managers Awards exists to recognise, reward and to help develop this talented pool of individuals who lead success at the sharp end of our industry and we are very proud to continue nurturing and rewarding this talent.”

The awards are supported by leading operators and suppliers from within the sector. Jason Thorndycraft, operations director of Luminar Group, said: “Luminar is delighted to support the ALMR Ops Awards. Strategy is at the forefront of our business and the awards have helped our regional management greatly in the past, with the master class providing particular focus on the key areas that are essential in helping us to move forward in the current challenging marketplace.”

Last year’s winners were Menesh Modhwadia (pictured centre with Kate Nicholls), an area manager for Revolution bars, and Darren King (pictured left) of tenanted and leased pub company Greene King Pub Partners. The Rising Star award was made to Matthew Dyson (pictured right), a business development manager at leased pub business Star Pubs & Bars. Click here for details of the 2014 awards.
