UK drinks importer Euroboozer has added Denmark’s celebrated To Øl brand to its craft beer portfolio.

To Øl, which translates as ‘Two Beers’, initially came about as a student brewing project back in 2005. College teacher Mikkel Borg Bjergsø went on to set up Mikkeller and the students, Tore Gynther and Tobias Emil Jensen, soon followed in his footsteps, founding To Øl in 2010.

Touching down in the UK in October, the initial To Øl Classics range being made available in keg and packaged formats comprises of five variants: Tropical Rumble, Session Raid, Gose to Hollywood, Reparationsbajer and Under the Radar.

The first brew, Tropical Rumble, is a 4.3% ABV session IPA, packed with passionfruit, mango and peach. It is “balanced and fruity, with a subtle bitter backbone” derived from Melanoidin malts, pilsner and Mosaic hops.

At a slightly stronger 4% ABV, Session Raid is inspired by IPAs, but instead uses a lager yeast as opposed to an ale yeast at lager fermentation temperatures. The beer is “crisp, light and citrusy, with medium malty sweetness and carbonation, plus a slightly bitter finish”.

The third variant, Gose to Hollywood (3.8% ABV) is a gose with oranges style beer. Made with California oranges and Citra hops, the “salty, sour and bright” gose is recommended served on a warm spring day.

Reparationsbajer, a 5.8% ABV gluten-free American pale ale, presents the brewery’s ‘recovery beer’ – a soft-bodied brew with aromatic American and New Zealand hops, created to “ease a lingering hangover”.

Making up the Classics range is Under the Radar, a low-alcohol farmhouse ale. The 0.3% ABV ale was three years in the making and offers “pear and cider aromas, as well as Riesling-like acidity”. Ingredients include Instant Crush Brett, a special yeast strain that was cultivated from a pear tree standing in Tore’s parent’s garden, as well as a selection of five malts and Mosaic hops.

The Classics range will be enhanced with periodic pre-orders, giving trade customers and consumers further access to the To Øl range.

Simon Dehany from To Øl said: “We brew a diverse range of craft beers – some potent and provocative, others fresh and floral where balance is central to everything.

“Our ambition is to use raw ingredients of the highest quality; never to compromise with taste and to keep pushing the boundaries of great beer crafting.

“We’re confident the Classics range is a great introduction to our brand in the UK and we’re excited to be working with Euroboozer to really drive trial, awareness and growth.”

Euroboozer’s MD Martyn Railton added: “To Øl have been smashing it since they first arrived on the scene so it’s a massive privilege to be chosen to help them launch and grow the brand in the UK.

“They are already hugely respected amongst beer aficionados so we’re confident it won’t be long before they’re huge players in the UK’s diverse beer market too. They’ve got some really exciting things in the pipeline and we can’t wait to be a part of them.”
