Fairtrade spirits range expands with three new releases

Fair cacao rum old tom

The Fair spirits range made with Fairtrade ingredients has been extended with three new products: an Old Tom gin, a rum and a cacao liqueur.

Fair Old Tom Gin is made with Fairtrade juniper berries, coriander and cardamom sourced from a nature reserve in Uzbekistan in central Asia. To achieve the sweeter Old Tom style, Fairtrade sugar from Central and South America is added to the gin before the ageing process.

With ABV of 42%, it has aromas of liquorice, juniper and vanilla sugar with a fresh and zingy acidity and notable flavours of lemon balm, pepper and cinnamon. It is recommended for a classic gin and tonic with a lemon slice garnish.

The new Fair Muscovado Rum, with ABV of 55%, is made with Fairtrade dark muscovado sugar from Mauritius. Crystal clear in colour and smooth in mouthfeel, it has long lingering hints of the muscovado sugar. It is recommended for drinking in a Daiquiri.

The vodka-based Fair Cacao uses organic and Fairtrade-certified cocoa nibs from Peru, with ABV of 22%. Clear and deep brown in colour with glistening shades of amber, it has tasting notes of sweet dark chocolate and black pepper, giving it a well-rounded warmth and spiciness. It is recommended for drinking on its own or in a cocktail such as a twist on an Old Fashioned with Fair Rum.

All made in France, the new products join a line-up of Fairtrade-certified expressions such as Fair Gin, Fair Vodka made with quinoa, Fair Café coffee liqueur, Fair Goji liqueur and Fair Açai liqueur.

The brand’s products follow around 200 rules to make sure that they pay the farmers at a fair price that enables them to cover production costs, make a living from farming, educate their children and build schools.
