Six bartenders are left in the running as the global final of Diageo’s World Class competition heads into its last stages.

Tonight, more finalists were eliminated after the latest round of the week-long competition: Cocktails Against the Clock where they had to make up to eight cocktails in eight minutes, which was held at Vinopolis at London Bridge.

Pictured above at Vinopolis, the six remaining for the last day of the global finals are:

  • Charlie Ainsbury, formerly manager of Eau de Vie in Sydney, Australia, and currently working at The Anchor, Bulletin Place and Ananas in Sydney
  • Peter Chua from 28 Hong Kong Street in Singapore
  • Charles Joly from the Aviary in Chicago, USA
  • Claudio Perinelli from Bartenders Academy in Bussolengo, Italy
  • Grant Sceney of Pacific Rim bar at The Fairmont in Vancouver, Canada
  • Ahmed “Mido” Yahi from Café Moderne in Paris, France

The overall winner will be announced at the World Class Awards ceremony at Old Billingsgate in the City of London on Friday night (August 1).

Day four of the competition began with a morning dash around London’s foodie haven, Borough Market, as the remaining 12 finalists were given a set budget, and just 25 minutes, to buy ingredients for their first two challenges of the morning; Ketel One Market and Ron Zacapa Gastronomy.

The challenges were hosted by Aqua Shard and Oblix on the 31st and 32nd floors of The Shard at London Bridge, where the bartenders were split into two group of six.

In the afternoon, they were at nearby Vinopolis, the visitor destination for wine and spirits where four of the remaining 12 were eliminated: Kaori Kurakami from Japan, Hardeep Rehal from Denmark, Hannah Van Ongevalle from Belgium and Ronnaporn Kanivichaporn from Thailand.

The remaining eight finalists took part in the speed challenge, where the eight judges awarded points for technique, presentation, creativity, complexity and the number of drinks delivered in the set time.

At the end of the day, two more finalists were eliminated: Jeffrey Chang from Taiwan and Giacomo Giannotti from Spain.
