The bars have been announced for the final of the Chairman’s Reserve Mai Tai competition run by the rum’s UK distributor Emporia Brands.
At a Mai Tai party on Tuesday September 26, last year’s winner Alvinos of Newcastle upon Tyne will be joined by four other finalists: Colonel Porter’s in Newcastle upon Tyne, Milk in Reading, Ten Mill Lane in Cardiff and the wildcard entry, Panda & Sons in Edinburgh.
Venues across the UK were challenged during July and August to promote their twist on the classic Mai Tai cocktail using two expressions of Chairman’s Reserve.
The winning venue will be rewarded with a training visit for two bartenders to St Lucia – the home of the rum – as part of the ongoing Chairman’s XI programme.
The trip will include a visit to the distillery, a training session with local bartenders, a celebration in the seaside village of Gros Islet, a day out on a catamaran and being judges in a local Chairman’s Reserve Mai Tai competition alongside a guest shift at the event.
The UK final will be held at The Magic Roundabout at Old Street in London from 7pm until late on Tuesday when the finalist bars will re-create their Chairman’s Reserve Mai Tai cocktails for members of the public.
With a secret panel of judges to test out each cocktail, the winning bar will be announced the same evening and go to St Lucia later this year.
