A former hardware shop in east London has been transformed into a wine and cocktail bar for a one-month residency.

Running to August 3, Hackney Hardware has been created at 493 Hackney Road, Cambridge Heath, by creative entrepreneurs China Brooks-Basto and Charlotte Mecklenburgh.

The original shelves and cubby holes, which once housed nuts and bolts, are now filled with food and drink, from wines to Portuguese dishes.

The bar offers craft beers from London including Hiver, Four Pure and Beavertown as well as Jensen gin, made in Bermondsey, south London.

Deli items are supplied by Portuguese Love Affair in Columbia Road, bread and other baked goods are from E5 Bakehouse in London Fields, and salami is from Blackhand Foods in Hackney Wick.

The bar will host events such as an art exhibition, a breakfast club and musical performances.

Hackney Hardware is open for breakfast, lunch and all-day drinks, from 8am to 9pm Monday to Thursday, 8am to 11pm on Fridays and from midday to 11pm on Saturdays.
