French Riviera inspires bar’s summer revamp

French Sour Yacht Coq d Argent_musselsA taste of the French Riviera is coming to the heart of the City of London this summer with the transformation of the bar and outdoor terrace at Coq d’Argent.

Taking residency from the beginning of May through to September, it will be a luxurious retreat called Yacht d’Argent, evoking the lavish super-yachts moored along the French Riviera.

It will have vast white canopies reflecting the sails of luxury yachts and a captain’s cabin-inspired wall, adorned with a traditional wooden wheel and vintage posters.

The bar at Yacht d’Argent will focus heavily on champagne, with a special display of magnums, imperials, jeroboams and balthazar bottles.

It will also have a champagne cocktail list created by bar manager Pawel Rolka, including a classic French 75 and the South Breeze, made with La Quintinye Vermouth Royal, fresh thyme, lemon and champagne.

The drinks list will also feature champagne-free options such as the Riviera, made with French aperitif Byrrh, bitter lemon and seasonal fruit, and the French Sour, combining armagnac with lemon juice, crème de pêche liqueur, white wine and egg white.

Head chef Mickael Weiss will create a grill menu inspired by the extravagance of the Riviera, including indulgent seafood spins on French and summer favourites, such as scallop croque monsieur, crayfish and chips and crab cocktails.

At the bar, a more informal menu will nod to the gourmet junk food trend, with deep-fried calamari and tartar sauce and crab fritters available to share.
