A gin made in Italy using traditional techniques and ingredients, with a zesty character from the use of lemon peel, has been launched in the UK.
Malfy Gin con Limone is distilled by the Vergnano Family at Torino Distillati in Moncalieri in Piedmont in north-west Italy. It is made with seven botanicals including juniper and coriander.
Key to the recipe is Italian lemon peels which are steeped in alcohol, made from Italian grain, and pressed in a traditional basket press. Along with the other botanicals, the liquid is distilled in a vacuum still at a low temperature to produce a fresh, zesty gin. It is bottled at 41% ABV.
It is described as “very approachable”, mixing well with tonic and in a Negroni but also with a character that means it can be drunk on its own as an aperitif.
It has been launched in the UK by importer When We Are Giants as well as in other markets including Ireland and the USA.
