Funkin launches search for new Innovation Champion

Andrew King Massimo Zitti

A search has been launched to find a bartender to support the team at cocktail brand Funkin as its latest Innovation Champion.

Entrants will be asked to demonstrate their passion and understanding of cocktails and propose an inventive new on-trade concept, as well as an original cocktail, using Funkin Pro products.

Those with the most innovative ideas and serves will be invited to compete for the title of Innovation Champion at a final held in London later in the year.

Together with a £500 cash prize, the winner will have the chance to work with Funkin on a part-time, freelance basis for a year. They will work on exciting projects, collaborate in product development to create new serves and represent the company at shows. They will also take part in the annual Funkin Innovation Forum where bartenders come together to discuss the latest trends.

The competition will be launched at the Imbibe Live show at Olympia in London on July 4. The winner would follow in the footsteps of current Innovation Champion, Massimo Zitti.

Massimo said: “I couldn’t recommend the role more. I’ve had some wonderful experiences, including working with MasterChef: The Professionals winner Steven Edwards at the Innovation Forum, alongside some of the most forward-thinking people in the business.

“This is a great opportunity for someone to influence future trends, whilst also learning from a leading partner in the cocktail industry.”

Funkin managing director Andrew King, who is pictured left with Massimo, said: “Creativity and innovation are at the heart of everything we do and produce and we have high expectations for our next Innovation Champion. We want passion, determination and someone who is able to bring flair to their craft.

“This year at the FIF, many of the UK’s best bartenders assembled to discuss industry trends and be the first to try Funkin’s latest innovation. It’s an excellent example of how we work closely with the on-trade to give them what they are looking for.”
