Cocktail specialist Funkin is tapping into a growing trend in bars and clubs by launching a new solution for serving cocktails on draught.

Using 20-litre one-way KeyKegs and couplers like many craft beers, it is debuting with four serves: Pornstar Martini, Piña Colada, Pink Grapefruit Gin Collins and Mojito. A fifth cocktail is scheduled for later this year.

The pre-batched cocktails, all with ABV of 10%, can deliver 133 150ml serves per KeyKeg. The shelf life is nine months unopened and 28 days once opened.

Funkin, which is a leading supplier of fruit pureés, cocktail syrups and pre-batched cocktail mixers, will unveil the new offering at the Pub18 show at Olympia in London on February 6 and 7.

Funkin’s managing director, Andrew King said: “This is an exciting launch for Funkin, as we continue to provide customers with products designed to deliver better service as well as great-tasting, quality cocktails. This innovation is a smart solution for operators looking to capitalise on the cocktail opportunity.”

To celebrate the launch, Funkin will hold a prize draw at Pub18 where the winner will receive two kegs of its Premium Batched Draught Cocktails.

The first four serves were selected as they were based on some of the UK’s best-selling and most recognisable cocktails. The Mojito is the number-one cocktail in the UK while the Pornstar Martini is the UK’s second most popular and also Funkin’s top-selling pre-batched cocktail mixer.

The Piña Colada has a consumer awareness of 67% and is integral to the growing rum category. Gin is the UK’s fastest-growing spirit, with the Pink Grapefruit Collins tapping into this popularity by adding a twist to a classic recipe.

According to the CGA Mixed Drinks Report, cocktails continue to provide a strong growth opportunity for the on-trade, representing a 7% share of the total spirits market. Draught cocktails are growing in popularity, with 32% of cocktail drinkers saying they would be likely to drink draught cocktails.

Ideal for nightclubs, arenas, outdoor events and high-volume pubs and bars, Funkin’s Premium Batched Draught Cocktails have been designed to use existing infrastructure, minimising licensee investment.

Bartender Aistė Valiukaitė, who won the role of Funkin’s Innovation Champion last year, said: “Having worked in a variety of outlets throughout my career, the draught cocktail concept is one that allows bartenders to serve quality cocktails in a flash, giving them time to engage with the customer and enhance their overall experience. Funkin’s range offers operators the opportunity to serve good quality, great-tasting cocktails consistently.”
